There’s a proposal for the investment of 2 data centers in Telangana, and if all goes well, it will be the second major investment in Hyderabad by Amazon. The company already has the largest fulfillment center in the city. Amazon Data Services India is all set to invest Rs 11,624 in 2 data centers. The company has put forth its application and is awaiting legal and environmental clearances from the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA).

According to the application submitted, the cost of the project for the 2 data centers is proposed to be Rs. 5,803 crore and Rs. 5,821 crore, respectively. One of the centers is proposed to be around in Chandanvelly industrial area while the other center is at 48 acres in Meerkhanpet village in Rangareddy district under Kandukur Mandal.
A data center is a dedicated space in a building, which houses computer systems and all its associated components. The company did not provide any additional details. The company mentioned the project is to be developed in three phases. The power requirement is to be sourced from the grid supply of the Telangana Central Power Distribution Company. This project can generate one tonne per year of e-waste. This will be segregated and disposed of or sold to any recycling plant or an authorised vendor.

The decision by the company is significant for upcoming data localization norms that will make it mandatory for data to be stored within India. An official of the state industries department said that Amazon is betting big on cloud computing services and is in the process of creating a backbone in the growing market. They opened a three million sq ft campus in Hyderabad last year. It is the first company-owned office building outside the US with a capacity to seat over 15,000 people.
