What is the difference between Cloud Computing and Web Hosting?

Cloud Computing and Web Hosting

Cloud computing and web hosting often seem to be similar regarding setup, but these two types of services can vary differently in many aspects which are quite critical. Let us learn more about these critical differences between the cloud computing and web hosting.

Web hosting is simply the process of hosting the files and data to a  remote location where they are maintained in the physical hardware in the servers rooms. A typical web hosting services include the service where the individual’s users can set up their web hosting services with a web hosting service provider. In an Enterprise level, web hosting services include the businesses to enter into the contracts with the third party service provider like ISPs (Internet Service Provider) to host their websites and applications.

Cloud computing, on the other hand, can also support remote web hosting. Cloud Computing involves the connection of clients to a cloud hosting service provider through a wireless or an IP connected networks. In cloud computing, a client sends the data to the vendor through the cloud. The data then stored and maintained on remote servers owned and operated by the vendor.

Cloud computing services that can include web hosting can be an alternative to the traditional web hosting concepts that are not based on cloud computing principles. The other major difference is the single client versus the multiple client architecture. Cloud computing services that include the web hosting is generally multitenant, i.e., the files and data resources stored are of multiple clients on the same server. This feature provides the flexibility and on-demand services for the individual clients so that the service provider can upgrade and downgrade the device easily.

But in contrast, the dedicated web hosting will involve a web hosting company providing hosting services to a single client on one server or a system and thus giving the biggest advantage of more security and more focused approach to serving the individual customers.
