If you are looking for SSD (Solid State Drive) for your dedicated server or VPS Server, then you should wait a little more to make your decision as the recent market research shows that there will be a significant price drops in SSDs rates in the near future. According to DRAMeXchange, a division of market research firm TrendForce, has forecasted that the average selling price of NAND Flash will drop around by 10% quarter over quarter respectively in the third and fourth quarter of 2018.
With the peaking demand and OEMs ramping up manufacturing for the Christmas, but the demand was not as expected. At the same time, the supply of 3D- NAND flash continues to expand. The reasons being the average sale of smartphones, notebook shipment were strong for first half of the year and slack growth in the second half and lastly the competition in the market for the SSDs. With the oversupply of server SSDs because too many suppliers are on the market which will ultimately lead to more profits for the consumers. Also, the NAND Flash suppliers have raised their output forecasts as they have scaled up the production capacity increased the yields of 64/72-layer 3D- NAND. The more significant push for 96-layer 3D- NAND will lead to higher capacity disk drives.
We can expect the low price of NAND Flash products in the context of the factors mentioned above. DRAMeXchange has also predicted contract price of various NAND Flash products will remain low for the rest of fiscal year. Also for the successive year price will remain low. Again it is anticipated that the increased production on the part of memory makers will be lead to oversupply.
Although with the advanced SSDs the wait should no longer be a bad move as most of the prominent market leaders are introducing NVMe drives. Hence the scenario seems worth waiting for.
