Google is adding two new Google Cloud regions in Seoul, South Korea and Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. Thus it will have a total of 23 global regions by 2020. Global IT giant, Goole is all set to expand into the areas of data management and analytics with strategic partnerships with leading open source-centric companies which include Confluent, Elastic, InfluxData, DataStax, Neo4j, MongoDB and Redis Labs. Google says it believes that open source is the future of the public cloud.
According to various studies, the open source database market is growing fast. SearchDataManagement.com believes that more than 70 percent of new applications will run on an open source database management system. Half of these existing relational database installations which are built on commercial DBMS technologies are in the process of being converted to open source platforms. These new partnerships will enable Google’s customers to use open-source technology easily in a cloud-native way.
Google Cloud Customers to get the best of Open-Source
Google is all set to offer fully managed services which are operated by these partners and they are tightly integrated into Google Cloud Platform (GCP). These provide a seamless user experience. They also include a single user interface to manage apps, unified billing, and Google Cloud support. Google wants to make Google Cloud Platform the best destination for open source-based services. Hence, it will work with its partners in order to build integrations with native GCP services like Stackdriver and IAM. These services will be validated for security and optimize their performance for users. With this, Google hopes that it will make it easier for enterprise customers to build on open source technologies.
Google Cloud will boast of 23 Global Regions by 2020
Google Cloud has opened 15 new regions across 13 countries in the last 3 years. Seoul will be Google Cloud’s eighth region in the Asia Pacific. It will serve both local customers and multinational customers who do business in South Korea. The Salt Lake City region is the sixth region which is within the continental US as well as third in the United States West, alongside Los Angeles and Oregon. It is a hub for data center infrastructure which is known for healthcare, financial services, and IT industries. Each new cloud region is designed for high availability with three zones from the start and will include our portfolio of key Google Cloud Platform (GCP) products,” Google said. Google is planning to open the Osaka, Japan region to customers in the coming weeks while the Jakarta, Indonesia region is expected to be launched in the first half of 2020.
